Musician of many talents, composer and guitarist Pierre Van Dormael (may 24, 1952 – Sept. 03 2008), has been an essential figure of the Belgian Jazz scene, and had a significant influence on several generations of musicians. This album, carefully prepared, recorded and mixed by himself shows a side of his talent rarely heard on CD : an intimate and acoustic album alternating solo pieces and duo with Senegalese guitarist Herve Samb. The repertoire is made of personal compositions, chosen standards, and covers of the years 70′.
'Let’s not be mistaken : the accessible side to the music which Pierre wanted for this does not prevent him from using his original phrasing throughout his improvisations. The result is explicit yet very “Van Dormaelian”. (Ph. Catherine)
